Franz Joseph to Greymouth

Moving back up to the north of the island and down from the Southern Alps, the weather is noticeably warmer.






The coastline is fairly barren, with large pebbles and lots of well eroded drift wood. If you've see the movie “the piano”, you've seen this coastline. Farms seem much poorer on this side of the mountains.

The campsite is right on the beach. The only noise is the sound of the breakers hitting the shore.
