We stopped in Arrowtown on the way. Another goldmine town with miner's shacks that has been turned into a curio, bistro tourist trap. A bit like Ligonier in Pa.
It has one of the oldest public toilets in the southern hemisphere.
We decided to stop this afternoon in a fairly remote spot, so we came to Glenhu, on the shores of lake Wanaka.
The camp ground is on the shore of the lake and has views of Mt Aspiring (3000m). The sun is nice and warm, but the wind is blowing hard. Since we're right on the 45th parallel, we're in the middle of the roaring 40's. If you look at a globe, there's very little all around the globe to stop the wind at this latitude. Tonight was the worst we've had. Cold winds and driving rain. Can't blame that on the place, which was beautiful, but like anywhere, I'm sure it's nicer in sunshine!
