Wanaka to Franz Joseph

This takes you across the mountains to the west coast. The roads were incredible. Up one mountain, around another to go down a third one and back up again for hours. Unfortunately, it was raining with low cloud all the way, so what must have been wonderful mountain views were shrouded in mist.

When we got to Franz Joseph, we thought it was time to treat ourselves and so we stayed the night in a hotel and went out to dinner. We went up to the glacier but it was shrouded in mist The next morning, the weather had cleared and the sun was shining. We took a helicopter and landed on the “neve” (snow basin that feed the glacier) above the Fox glacier. The first time either of us had been on a helicopter. It was fantastic.

If
I say I took 140 photo's, it gives you some idea of the awesome nature of the aerial views. Well worth the money.

Uh oh, Robbie. Looks like Dad's draining the inheritance...

Looks like an awesome trip though.

Robbie and I went to Monday Night Football the other night at FedEx Field in DC with our terrible towels. There were TONS of Steeler fans! Probably 1 in 5 was a Steeler fan. Great W for the men in Black & Gold.
